Today we will look into the wood-based fabrics , understand how they are made and how they impact the quality of our clothes as well as the environment.

WOOD-BASED FABRIC SELECTION

 
LYOCELL, SUSTAINABILITY

🌿 LYOCELL:

  • soft as silk,
  • breathable,
  • lightweight
  • comfortable,
  • durable,
  • strong,
  • resistant to wrinkles.

🌿 SUSTAINABILITY: 

  • Closed loop production system using non-toxic chemicals. 
  • Sustainable natural source: Eucalyptus tree. 
  • Can be recycled.
  • Biodegradable.
 
viscose, sustainability

VISCOSE RAYON:

  • soft,
  • comfortable to wear,  
  • wrinkle resistant,
  • no problem with static,
  • suitable for use in hot and humid climates,
  • not as strong as natural cotton or linen, 
  • has a tendency to shrink when washed.

SUSTAINABILITY: 

  • Requires use of toxic chemicals. 
  • Natural source (Bamboo) often is grown with chemical pesticides and fertilisers. 
  • Contributes in deforestation.

MODAL: 

  • soft and silky,
  • strong,
  • wear resistant,
  • doesn’t shrink as easily as viscose rayon or cotton.

  • Closed loop production system using toxic chemicals.
  • Contributes in deforestation.
