You might think you have nothing to wear but this will give you plenty of outfit inspiration. Comfy work-from-home clothes can do wonders for your mood, goals, and energy.

How to choose outfits for your home office capsule.

The biggest difference between dressing for the office and dressing to work from home is that now you should start considering internal factors like your mood, feelings, and physical comfort.

When you dress to go to the office you usually consider more external factors like office etiquette, peer approval, looking good for your clients, mind the weather, type of commute, and so on.

This is very important to remember. Your working-from-home wardrobe should be all about you and the things you enjoy wearing.

In the latest live session, we talked about how what we wear can reflect or change our mood for the better. You can watch the replay if you missed it, it also includes a practical exercise.

But in short, the clothes we wear influence our well-being and productivity. So, it’s very important to have clothes in your wardrobe that can be worn in different states of mind.

4 outfit categories for your home office wardrobe:

Energy outfits

Let’s say you woke up with low energy, so to change that, you can try wearing clothes that usually make you feel more energized and happier.

Productivity outfits

Clothes that help you be more focused and organized.

Peace & calm outfits

Clothing that have basic cuts, or calming colours or comfortable soft materials.

Comforting outfits

These can be some kind of mix between leisurewear and pajamas. For example, if you wake up sad or feeling anxious, you should let yourself relax a bit and wear something easy.

How to create a work-from-home capsule using what you already have.

Tops are the easiest to choose. Choose those that are quite simple in design, comfortable, and made out of pleasant to wear fabrics. Let’s say, your cotton, linen, tencel or wool shirts, blouses, jumpers, and cardigans are perfect for your home office wardrobe as well.

Dresses can be a part of your home wardrobe if they fit the outfit categories we’ve talked about earlier. Although, maybe not all of them. For example, your party, evening, and any other dresses that have a complicated design can be put away in storage for a while.

Bottoms, on the other hand, might need some adjustments. If your office dress code was quite formal it means that most of your skirts and trousers were quite classic and elegant. Maybe you were even sacrificing comfort for style. Now you don’t need to do that, you should think of bottoms that are quite comfortable to sit in and wear around the house. Here I’d advise going for softer and thinner materials like tencel, cotton, bamboo, cupro, or fine wool.

As for the fit, try to go for a soft waist fit. This can be leggings or something similar, elastic waistbands, paper bag waist. The point is that your bottoms should be as comfortable as your pajamas but look slightly more like you’d wear them outside if you had to. You can also check your summer wardrobe, I am sure you have some nice and comfortable bottoms there.

If we take a look at the items I picked, we can see that some items are basic like t-shirts or these cool flared leggings, some are simple in design but have a beautiful colour or texture, and others are quite fun and bright like that blue and black turtleneck and turquoise soft trousers. I also added 2 pairs of shoes. Of course, you can wear your home slippers or have no shoes. But trust me, it feels nice to wear a full, finished outfit with shoes from time to time.

Energy outfits

This variety of different designs and colors allows me to have outfits for different moods. For example, I think these outfits might make you feel more energized and creative. They are fun to wear, but also very soft and comfortable. The outfit in the middle includes a slip dress, I thought it would be nice to have a dress that gives you lots of styling options.

Productivity outfits

I also have outfits that can help get you more focused and productive. They are simple, and effortless. The colours are pleasant and soft. It won’t distract you from doing the work while still looking very nice and polished.

Peace & calm outfits

I thought these outfits might be perfect when you feel calm and peaceful. They all include soft, thin and soft materials, comfortable straight fit and beautiful and serene colours.

Comforting outfits

And finally, I also have some super easy outfits that I think would be great for those days when you take it easy and work from your couch or even bed.

As you can see, your home wardrobe is very different from what you’re used to when going to an office. It has a different purpose now. It should please you, and only you. It should have your back when you feel down or help you stay happy. This is an opportunity for you to explore your true personal style and start dressing for yourself.
